MUTUAL AID

SOLIDARITY, NOT CHARITY

Dignity & Power Now's (DPN) Mutual Aid program was established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing financial assistance and essential household supplies to communities facing economic hardship.

Aligned with abolitionist principles, the program has evolved to focus on supporting formerly incarcerated people, who are often excluded from support programs due to their record. Incarceration can cause long-term economic instability for individuals, their families, and the broader community.

DPN's Mutual Aid program aims to alleviate the financial burden of incarceration by providing funds directly into the hands of our system-impacted community. We believe everyone deserves to have their basic needs met, regardless of their background or record.

Grounded in solidarity, not charity, our Mutual Aid program also empowers recipients to become active members in the prison abolition movement. Our Mutual Aid team builds meaningful connections with recipients to various DPN programs and our campaign efforts towards decarceration in Los Angeles County.
