Saharra White is a single mother, college student, and Field Organizer with Dignity and Power Now, dedicated to ending mass incarceration. She has always had an interest in being a service to the people and commits a lot of her free time to volunteer work for building a better community that centers care, not cages.
Saharra has had first-hand experience with the way the system has traumatically impacted families. Her father was illegally sentenced 25 to life in 2001. Saharra also lost her partner Quinten Thomas, who was the father of their daughter, Ashanti. Quinten’s life was stolen while he was in LAs County Sheriff custody in 2018.
Due to these life experiences, Saharra is committed and dedicated to the fight for justice, community healing, and holding sheriff and police accountable for their actions. She stands in solidarity with the families and continues to be a voice for those whose lives have been stolen lives lost by sheriff and police violence.
Saharra is a student at Los Angeles Southwest College, working towards her B.A. in Social Justice and a minor in mental health. She spends a lot of her free time doing volunteer work with other Social Justice and Healing Justice Organizations like, Justice LA, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles, ALMA Backyard Farms, and the CURB coalition.
Throughout Saharra’s time at DPN, she has helped facilitate family meetings, worked on voter registration for electoral justice, participated in Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission meetings, and advocacy work, speaking at many events and programs.
