Beth Baker

Beth Baker is a Professor in the Anthropology Department at California State University, Los Angeles, where she has been teaching since 2002. Beth was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Maryland. She earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of New Mexico in 1999, but has lived in Los Angeles since 1994. Her scholarly work focuses on international migration, especially from Central America to the United States. She has published work on Salvadoran migration, the immigrant rights movements, transnationalism, mobility studies, Central American studies, citizenship, deportation, and anthropology. Her political work is in opposition to mass incarceration, police violence and other forms of state violence, and deportation. She has served on the board of Dignity and Power Now since 2017.
